Frequently Asked Questions

Sustainable cloth diaper baby

Q. Why choose a service?

A: Choosing Kind By Nature Diaper Co allows families to enjoy the benefits of cloth diapering without the hassle of washing diapers at home. This service lets parents try cloth diapering without a long-term financial commitment, which is ideal for expectant parents unsure about making an investment. Some families use our service in the first few months when life with a newborn is hectic, while others may mix cloth with disposables. We’re here to help your family cloth diaper, whether you're using our service or not, as we strive to reduce disposables in landfills for years to come!

Q: When should we sign up?

A: You can sign up as soon as you confidently decide to embrace our convenient service! Many new parents find that planning to start cloth diapering right after their baby is born. To make the start easy and smooth, we recommend scheduling your initial delivery of fresh, clean diapers approximately 2/3 weeks prior to your due date. Once your little baby arrives, simply reach out to us, and we will promptly activate your account to begin our reliable weekly pick-up and delivery service which is designed to meet all your diapering needs efficiently and effortlessly.

Q: What kind of diapers do you use?

A: We are immensely proud to use OsoCozy® 100% woven cotton DSQ quality prefold diapers, specifically designed with the highest absorbency in mind, featuring a remarkable 4x8x4 three-layer panel configuration. The term 4-8-4 refers to the ply count, which indicates that our premium diapers consist of 4 soft layers of cotton on each side and an impressive 8 layers in the center for maximum absorbency. As a result, these exceptional diapers are not only incredibly soft to the touch but also exceedingly absorbent, making them a perfect choice for parents seeking quality and comfort for their little ones.

Q: How will I learn to use cloth diapers on my baby?

A: Once you sign up for our premium cloth diaper service, you'll enjoy access to a wealth of resources, including free how-to videos, convenient phone consultations, and interactive Zoom meetings. Additionally, we are excited to offer in-person classes at our brand-new Cranston, Rhode Island location, where our knowledgeable and friendly team will thoroughly explain various cloth diapering techniques and happily answer any questions you may have.

Q. Can I travel with cloth?

A: Absolutely! Be sure to pack your diaper bag with a variety of cloth diapers, gentle wipes, soothing balms, and a reliable waterproof bag for storing any dirty diapers until you make it back home to properly empty them into your convenient diaper pail. For longer trips, we provide extra cloth diapers and supplies. If you use disposables, we’ll pick up the soiled diapers on your service day and continue service when you return home.

Q: Do I have to rinse the diapers?

A: No rinsing is needed for our cloth diapers. Simply place the soiled diapers directly into the diaper pail without any hassle. In fact, rinsing can actually lead to unsightly stains. As soon as your baby begins to eat solids, just shake off any solid waste from the diaper before placing it into the pail. To make this process even easier, consider using a biodegradable liner, which simplifies cleanup and significantly reduces unpleasant odors.

Q. How are diapers washed?

A: Our cloth diapers are cleaned through a 17-step process using 170-degree temperatures and special detergent made for baby fabrics, free from perfumes, dyes, and softeners. We wash and sanitize the diapers thoroughly, with several rinse cycles to remove all detergent and residue. Our diapers are regularly tested to keep a neutral pH around 5.5, preventing issues like diaper rash caused by high alkalinity. Our cleaning method ensures the highest standards of health and sanitation for cloth diapers.

Q: Are there any diaper creams that should not be used with cloth diapers?

A: Cloth diapers can significantly help to reduce diaper rashes as 100% cotton is gentle on baby’s delicate skin. However, it is important to note that some rashes might still occasionally occur despite these advantages. Not all types of rash creams are safe to use with cloth diapers; we strongly advise avoiding any products containing zinc oxide, as these can stain the fabric and compromise the diapers’ absorbency. If you find it necessary to use regular rash creams, please remember to place a biodegradable liner in the diaper to protect it. For your convenience and to avoid any potential damage fees, a list of approved creams that are safe for our cloth diapers will be provided as part of your Welcome packet.

Q: Do I have to be home when diapers are delivered?

A: We simplify cloth diapering for busy parents! Just leave your soiled diapers in the clearly designated spot, and we’ll drop off fresh, clean ones right in your sealed diaper bag. The best part is that you don’t even need to be home for this convenient service. Before your first delivery, we’ll work with you to set up a secure and accessible designated spot for diaper pick-up and delivery, ensuring that it’s protected from the elements, no matter the weather conditions outside.

Q: What happens if I forget to leave my diapers out for pick-up?

A: Forget to leave out soiled diapers? No problem at all! The very first time this happens, we will leave your fresh, clean diapers at your doorstep and promptly call you to arrange a convenient return pick-up for the soiled diapers. However, please note that for the second occurrence and every time thereafter, there will be a small return pick-up fee to facilitate the service.

Q: What if I live in a controlled access building?

A: We are very flexible. Many of our families live in apartment buildings, and we find that each situation is different. Ideally we prefer access to get inside the building (with a key or code) to swap the diaper bags outside your apartment main door. We can also leave diapers in the lobby or outside in a concealed spot. Please contact us to discuss the specifics of your building. We can make other arrangements such as picking your diapers up at a friend’s house or another predetermined location.

Q: What about Holidays and inclement weather?

A: We will reach out to you well in advance regarding any upcoming Holidays and any significant scheduling changes that may affect your service. In the case of inclement weather, you can confidently assume that we will still be making our deliveries as scheduled. However, if it becomes unsafe to deliver due to hazardous weather conditions, we will inform you as soon as possible to ensure your peace of mind and safety.

Q. What happens when my baby goes to Daycare?

A. We make it easy and convenient to transition from cloth diapering at home to confidently using cloth diapers in a daycare setting. Our range of packages and accessories is specifically designed to be daycare-friendly, ensuring a smooth experience for both parents and providers. Please don’t hesitate to contact us when the time arrives for your little one to enter daycare. We will gladly supply you with everything you need to cloth diaper successfully at Daycare. Additionally, we can also support your daycare provider by providing diaper demonstrations or informative literature on the many benefits of modern cloth diapers.

Q. What if I start service and decide it isn't working for us?

A. Like anything else that is new and perhaps a bit unfamiliar, cloth diapering does take just a little practice in the beginning. And while most parents quickly get the hang of it, others may take a few weeks to really feel comfortable with the process. As new parents, you encounter a myriad of new experiences, and if you find yourself feeling overwhelmed or uncertain, you can always start with a combination of disposables diapers and cloth option until you feel fully at ease and confident in using cloth. This approach allows you to gradually acclimate to the cloth diapering process while ensuring your baby remains comfortable and well-cared for during those initial days.

We recommend you try cloth for at least four weeks to fully understand how it works during this adjustment period. If, after this time, you decide that cloth diapering doesn’t meet your family's needs, you can cancel the service anytime. Rest assured, there are no lengthy contracts to sign beyond your initial purchase, allowing for flexibility and peace of mind.
